The first time I saw her was at three o’clock in the morning, inside a twenty-four-hour grocery store, as she stood in the wine section, barefoot - and alone.
Other than the smiling hippie running the cash register, the place was deserted. In such a situation, most men, I’m sure, would have seen an opportunity for some adventure. I harbored no such thoughts. Being the gentleman I am, with no ulterior motive whatsoever, I approached her to offer my assistance.
